Jeremie Frimpong’s night ended almost as soon as it began, as the Liverpool right-back was forced off just two minutes into the Champions League game against Qarabag with what appears to be a hamstring problem.
Initial assessments suggest this could be his third hamstring issue of the season, a worrying pattern that raises serious concerns about his fitness and availability for the crucial weeks ahead.
On 30 May 2025, Liverpool agreed to sign Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial fee of €35 million, activating his release clause on a five-year deal running until 2030, positioning him as the direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold following the latter’s move to Real Madrid and adding dynamic wing-back energy to Arne Slot’s right flank.
Liverpool had envisioned him as a key long-term pillar, making this latest setback particularly frustrating.
Wataru Endo came on as an early substitute after Frimpong signalled he could not continue, forcing an immediate reshuffle in Liverpool’s defensive setup.
With the squad already hit by multiple injuries at the back, this blow further complicates Slot’s plans at a decisive stage of the season, and the club will anxiously await scan results to determine the full extent of the damage.
