Jean-Philippe Mateta is waiting for Crystal Palace’s approval to travel to Italy and finalise a transfer to AC Milan after the two clubs reached an agreement in principle.
According to Sky Sports, Palace and Milan have settled the main terms of the deal, with the French striker expected to join the Serie A side in the coming days if all goes to plan.
For now, however, Palace are holding back the move as they work to secure a replacement before allowing Mateta to leave.
Their priority target remains Norwegian forward Jørgen Strand Larsen, currently at Wolverhampton, although talks have hit a snag over a proposed fee in the region of 60 million euros.
Mateta has been a key figure for Crystal Palace in recent seasons, and his potential switch underlines Milan’s intention to add physical presence and depth to their attack for the second half of the campaign.
If Palace can conclude a deal for a new striker, Mateta is expected to fly to Milan for a medical and to put pen to paper on his new contract at San Siro.
