Jean-Philippe Mateta: Man Utd linked with Crystal Palace striker in €35m summer move

Manchester United are being linked with a summer move for Crystal Palace centre-forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, whose future at Selhurst Park is uncertain amid growing transfer speculation.

Reports on Transfermarkt list the 28-year-old as a rumoured target for United, with the level of probability over the deal marked only as “?”, underlining that talks are at a speculative stage rather than an advanced one.

Mateta, valued at €35.00m, is approaching a potentially pivotal phase of his career. The France and DR Congo dual national has no publicly listed contract expiry date at Palace, fuelling suggestions he could become a free agent in a future window if an agreement over fresh terms is not reached. For now, he remains registered with the Premier League club and wears the number 14 shirt.

A right-footed striker standing at 1.92m, Mateta has built a reputation as a traditional centre-forward presence in the top flight. Born in Sevran on 28 June 1997, he has established himself in Palace’s attack and continues to operate in his preferred role through the middle.

The current links come on the back of his ongoing involvement for Palace in the Premier League, where he has featured this season, including his latest outing for the club in their most recent league fixture. Crystal Palace’s form has kept him in the shop window, with his status as an experienced top-flight forward ensuring continued interest from bigger clubs.

There is no indication yet whether a move to Old Trafford would involve a transfer fee close to his estimated market value or whether United might instead monitor his situation in case he runs down his deal and becomes a free agent, but any switch would represent a significant step in Mateta’s career and could redefine his standing in both English football and on the wider European stage.
