Jean-Paul Akono, the former coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, is currently facing health challenges that require bed rest. While his family has reassured about his condition, recent developments indicate that his health has worsened.
On Tuesday, rumors circulated in Cameroon suggesting the death of Akono, but those reports were inaccurate. Nevertheless, the situation prompted Adoum Garoua, the Minister of Sports, to visit Akono’s home and order his evacuation to Douala for further treatment.
According to information from CamFoot, Jean-Paul Akono is suffering from body paresis, a condition characterized by the loss of motor skills in one or more muscles, either temporarily or permanently. It is anticipated that three to four weeks of sick leave will be necessary for his recovery.
This development means that Akono, who was preparing the national team for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, will likely miss the upcoming matches against Ukraine (friendly), Togo, and DR Congo. The interim responsibilities are expected to be taken up by his deputy, Martin Ndtoungou Mpillé, while the search for a permanent replacement, possibly among Domenech, Kombouaré, and Finke, is underway.
