Jean Onana: Cameroon and Besiktas midfielder linked with Eyupspor move

Cameroonian defensive midfielder Jean Onana of Besiktas is being linked with a move to fellow Turkish Super Lig side Eyupspor as the Istanbul club explore options to reinforce the centre of their midfield.

Onana, 26, is under contract at Besiktas until 30 June 2027 but could be allowed to move on after a spell in which he has struggled to establish himself as a regular. The Istanbul giants have previously been open to temporary departures for the player, twice sending him on loan to Serie A side Genoa over the past two seasons, and a switch within the Super Lig is now being discussed. Eyupspor are understood to view the player’s situation and current €1m valuation as an opportunity to add top-flight experience on a manageable deal.

The Yaounde-born midfielder joined Besiktas in July 2023 from Lens for a fee of €4.04m, arriving with a reputation built during productive spells in Ligue 1 with Bordeaux and Lens, where he made 58 league appearances and scored four goals. He also featured regularly in Belgium’s top flight with Mouscron, as well as in European competition, experience that appeals to an Eyupspor side seeking to deepen their squad.

Onana was part of the Besiktas squad that won the Turkish Super Cup in the 2024-25 season, but he made only limited league appearances for the club last term and spent part of the campaign back in Italy. With Besiktas well stocked in central areas and tied to the player for another year beyond this season, any agreement with Eyupspor is likely to focus on balancing playing time for the midfielder with protecting his remaining contract value.
