Paris Saint-Germain faced a tough challenge this evening but emerged victorious in the League Cup final against Lyon. Following their near-assured French championship title, PSG secured their second title of the season.
However, the disappointment of the season lingers due to their elimination in the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Chelsea, coming just three minutes from the final whistle.
In tonight’s match, PSG clinched victory with two goals, both courtesy of Edison Cavani, who converted penalties in the 4th and 32nd minutes. Lyon managed to level the score with a goal from A. Lacazette in the 56th minute.
Additionally, the match saw Lyon’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas, express frustration with the refereeing, particularly regarding a penalty awarded in the 31st minute for a foul by Lopes on Lucas outside the area. Aulas questioned the consistency of decisions, stating, “How can people always make mistakes against us? Penalty non-existent outside the area!”
This has sparked a debate over whether Lyon was unfairly treated in the final, adding further controversy to the match.
