The former coach of the Ivory Coast Elephants, delved into the circumstances surrounding his resignation amid public pressure following the team’s substantial defeat (0-4) against Equatorial Guinea in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage. Gasset, known for his football acumen, provided an in-depth analysis of the situation during an extensive commentary.

Acknowledging the meticulous construction of the team roster, Gasset noted, “The list was well constructed even if I didn’t manage to put it in place well.

We will have arrived at the objective differently, but it proves that the chosen commando is the right one, even if I would have preferred not to arrive at this outcome.

” Despite the challenges faced, Gasset expressed satisfaction in the performance of selected players, particularly highlighting the noteworthy contributions of Haller and Adingra, both of whom found the net in subsequent matches.

In a moment of shared optimism, Gasset revealed his dream, stating, “I dream of seeing Haller score the goal in the final.

He deserves it so much.” His continued engagement with the matches was evident as he mentioned, “Of course, I don’t miss a beat!”

This dedication extended beyond personal interest, with Gasset promptly sending congratulatory messages as soon as the final whistle blew.

His messages reached the staff, players, and the team captain, underscoring his pride and happiness for the Elephants.

Reflecting on the aftermath of his departure, Gasset remarked, “My departure brought peace. We say to ourselves, he was the culprit and that protects others.

You had to see death up close perhaps to bounce back.” The seasoned coach emphasized the potential positive impact of his resignation on the team dynamics, fostering a sense of tranquility that could enable the Elephants to move forward with renewed vigor.
