Jean Akassou: Ivorian midfielder joins Kifissos on a free transfer

Ivorian defensive midfielder Jean Akassou has joined Kifissos from Asteras Stavros on a free transfer, adding a 40-year-old player to the Greek club’s squad.

Akassou completed the move on 18 September 2026 and has a contract with Kifissos until 30 June 2027. The transfer follows a five-year spell at Asteras Stavros, whom he joined from Fokikos in September 2021, also as a free agent.

Born in Songon, Cote d’Ivoire, Akassou has spent much of his career in Greece after moving there from Hungary’s Honved. He began his recorded senior career with Stade d’Abidjan before joining Muangthong United in 2006. He subsequently played for BEC Tero Sasana, Honved and Pecsi MFC before continuing his career in Greece.

His Greek clubs have included Niki Volos, Apollon 1926, Anagennisi Karditsa, Doxa Drama, Almyros Gaziou, Tsiklitiras, Ermis Zonianon, Niki Traganou, AO Stylidas, Keravnos Pernis, Olympiakos Lamias, Fokikos and Asteras Stavros. Every move in that sequence was recorded as a free transfer.

Akassou’s primary position is defensive midfield. He is listed at 1.75 metres tall and is able to use both feet, providing Kifissos with a player whose career has included clubs in Cote d’Ivoire, Thailand, Hungary and Greece.

The move to Kifissos represents the latest stage of a career that has included 18 recorded transfers since 2006. His longest recent spell came at Asteras Stavros, where he remained until completing his switch to his new club.

Kifissos have now secured Akassou’s services without a transfer fee, with the Ivorian midfielder’s agreement in place for the 2026-27 season and running through June 2027.
