Former Nigerian international star, Jay-Jay Okocha, has unveiled his predictions for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, currently hosted in Cote d’Ivoire, highlighting the national team of Morocco as one of his top contenders for the championship.
In statements released on the official website of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday, Okocha remarked, “All matches are challenging, but when you play against the host nation, it becomes even more difficult.
If you want to be a champion, you have to defeat the best.”
He continued, “Naturally, I tip Nigeria, and there are several teams that we can say have what it takes to win.
Senegal, based on their impressive first match, and of course, Morocco, I expect them to perform at a high level following their standout performance in the World Cup.”
“When you also look at teams like Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea, and Angola, they cannot be underestimated.
The current Africa Cup of Nations has demonstrated its intense competitiveness,” Okocha acknowledged.
Okocha conceded that Nigeria had a disappointing start in the first match, stating, “We need to improve on various aspects.
We created numerous opportunities but failed to convert them, and Victor Osimhen was not on top of his game.”
The football icon’s insights into the potential success of Morocco in the tournament underscore the fierce competition and unpredictability that characterizes the African football landscape.
As the matches progress, fans eagerly await to see which team will ultimately emerge victorious in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
