Atlas Lions defender El Yamiq reacts to being left out of squad
Jawad El Yamiq has addressed his recent exclusion from the Morocco national football team squad for friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay, reaffirming his commitment to the national team and willingness to return whenever called upon.
The Real Zaragoza defender, who played a key role in Morocco’s historic 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar, spoke candidly about his situation in a recent interview, expressing both humility and dedication.
Asked about his future with the Atlas Lions, El Yamiq did not shy away from stating his readiness to serve his country again.
“If my country needs me, I will be the first to answer the call and honor the nation’s call,” he said, emphasising the personal significance of representing Morocco at the international level.
Despite being left out, the Khouribga-born defender maintained a positive outlook, showing respect for the technical decisions made by coach Mohammed Ouahbi.
He stressed that selection is not only about his own place in the team, but also about supporting the emerging talents who are competing for spots.
“If I am not selected, I wish them all the best and I will support them as their biggest fan,” El Yamiq added, highlighting a professional attitude and a focus on team unity above personal ambitions.
The interview demonstrates El Yamiq’s continued professionalism and mindset, underlining that, for him, wearing the national jersey remains a privilege.
His statements suggest that while competition within the squad is increasing, he remains fully available to contribute whenever needed, setting an example for younger players and reinforcing his loyalty to the Atlas Lions.
