Jarell Quansah stays at Leverkusen for another season

Jarell Quansah will remain at Bayer Leverkusen for at least one more year, according to Bild.

Liverpool will not activate their recall option this summer, despite defensive struggles at Anfield last season.

The Reds secured buy-back clauses for both 2026 and 2027 when the 23-year-old English centre-back joined last year. This summer’s fee would be around €80 million, but Liverpool appear to be planning long-term with the international.

Quansah is expected to keep developing in Germany and grow into a leadership role before a possible 2027 return to Anfield, when the buy-back drops to €60 million. Leverkusen paid €30 million for him.

Sportively, Quansah was one of last season’s big winners at Leverkusen. While the club underperformed overall, he improved steadily and became a defensive mainstay.

Nominated for England by Thomas Tuchel, he played 44 competitive matches in his first season, scoring five goals including four in the Bundesliga. Bild reports he is set regardless of the new coach, suitable in both back four and back three systems.
