Jarell Quansah’s long-anticipated switch to Bayer Leverkusen is close to being finalized, with only a medical scheduled for Monday left to complete the deal.
The 22-year-old Liverpool defender is expected to become the most expensive signing in the German club’s history, with a fee of around €35 million plus up to €6 million in performance-based bonuses.
Quansah, who has roots in Ghana, is currently preparing to face Germany in the U21 European Championship final on Saturday evening.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool have inserted a buy-back clause into the deal. The Merseyside club can reportedly bring Quansah back for at least €70 million, with that figure potentially rising to €82 million depending on conditions attached to the agreement.
Quansah’s development under Jurgen Klopp last season saw him rise quickly into the first-team picture, impressing with his strength, composure, and ball-playing ability.
His move to Leverkusen under manager Erik ten Haag offers the defender the chance to grow further in the Bundesliga and European competitions.
