Jamie Leweling showcased his brilliance with a first-half brace as VfB Stuttgart secured a commanding 3-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava in Champions League Round 7.
The German-Ghanaian winger was instrumental in the visitors’ dominance at the Štadión Tehelné pole.
Leweling opened the scoring in the 11th minute, calmly slotting a left-footed effort into the bottom corner after a precise pass from Deniz Undav. Stuttgart’s attacking prowess continued, and Leweling doubled the lead in the 36th minute, capitalizing on a rebound to tap in despite VAR initially questioning the goal.
Slovan Bratislava pulled one back in the 85th minute through Idjessi Metsoko, whose composed finish offered the hosts a glimmer of hope. However, Stuttgart’s Fabian Rieder sealed the win with a clinical strike two minutes later, assisted by the ever-impressive Maximilian Mittelstädt.
The victory solidifies Stuttgart’s grip on qualification, with Leweling lasting 70 minutes before receiving a well-deserved ovation. Stuttgart now shifts focus to their Bundesliga clash against Mainz on January 25.
