Jamie Carragher: Mohammed Kudus’ dip in form contributed to West Ham’s struggles

West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus among Europe’s top three dribblers despite difficult season

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has pointed to Mohammed Kudus’ lack of impact this season as a major factor behind West Ham United’s underwhelming Premier League campaign.

Kudus enjoyed a stellar debut season with the Hammers in 2023/24, registering 14 goals and seven assists while playing a pivotal role in their Europa League journey. However, the Ghanaian forward has struggled to replicate that form in the 2024/25 season, managing just four goals and three assists across all competitions.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher expressed concern over Kudus’ performance levels and their effect on West Ham’s fortunes.

“Well, I see there’s no doubt he’s a quality player who should be playing for a team closer to the top of the table, not near the bottom. But probably one of the reasons why West Ham are where they are this season is because he hasn’t shown the form that he showed last season,” he said.

“Last season, he looked fantastic; he just hasn’t looked the same player this season,” Carragher added.

Carragher also suggested that Kudus could be on his way out of the London club, especially with interest from top European teams and the Hammers’ potential need to raise funds.

“So, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a change there in some way, because, as you said, West Ham need the money. But other clubs might think this is an off-season for him.

“Last season was the real cue to say you can get that type of player; maybe it’s a good sign. So it might be the type of situation that maybe works for the two clubs,” he added.

West Ham will conclude their season on Sunday with an away fixture against already-relegated Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
