Jamal Sellami set to take charge of Saudi Pro League strugglers Al-Fateh

Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia within the next 24 hours to complete his appointment as manager of Al-Fateh, according to Saudi website Al-Maidan.

The club is yet to receive approval from the Sustainability Committee for the proposed deal. However, the indications are that permission should be secured without difficulty, as Al-Fateh do not have any governance-related observations against them.

Al-Fateh have held talks with Sellami in recent weeks and reached a preliminary agreement for him to become the team’s head coach. Approval from the Sustainability Committee for the dismissal of Khaled Al-Atwi is understood to be the only remaining step before the appointment can be formally completed.

Middle East newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat previously reported that Al-Fateh had decided to end their contractual relationship with Al-Atwi by mutual consent. The decision followed a series of poor results in the Saudi league.

The club moved quickly to identify a replacement, with Sellami emerging as the leading candidate to take over during the next stage of the season.

Al-Fateh’s managerial change comes as they face a difficult position in the Saudi league table. They are 15th, with three points from three draws, and have lost each of their other four matches since the start of the campaign.

Sellami was dismissed by the Jordan Football Association after Jordan were eliminated in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

He had led Jordan at the tournament in the United States, where they exited without a victory after losing all three of their group matches against Argentina, Algeria and Austria.

Before that campaign, Sellami guided Jordan to the final of the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar, where they were beaten by Morocco.
