Jamal Sellami has been appointed as the new head coach of the Jordan national football team, replacing Houcine Ammouta. The Jordan Football Association announced the change on Saturday, June 22, ahead of the crucial final phase of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers starting in September and the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Sellami, 53, will embark on his first coaching role outside Morocco, bringing extensive experience from his tenure with various Moroccan national teams.

His previous roles include managing the A’, U17, and U20 squads, as well as serving as an assistant for the senior national team.

He also had a significant stint as the head coach of FUS Rabat, a prominent Moroccan club.

The Jordanian Football Association expressed gratitude to Ammouta for his contributions, particularly highlighting the team’s historic performance under his leadership.

Jordan reached the final of the 2023 Asian Cup, marking a significant achievement for the Nashama, and performed admirably during the initial phase of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“The separation with Ammouta was conducted amicably and respectfully at his request,” the association noted in its statement, underscoring the mutual respect between the coach and the federation.

Jordan is currently ranked 68th in the FIFA world rankings, updated on June 20, and holds the 9th position in Asia.

The appointment of Sellami is seen as a strategic move to build on the momentum achieved under Ammouta and to further the team’s ambitions on the international stage.

Sellami’s challenge will be to harness the potential of the Jordanian squad and navigate the demanding path of the World Cup qualifiers and the Asian Cup.

His experience with Moroccan teams is expected to bring a fresh perspective and strategic acumen to Jordanian football.

As Sellami steps into his new role, Jordanian fans and football analysts alike will be watching closely to see how he adapts to the new environment and leverages his extensive coaching experience to propel the Nashama to new heights.

His appointment marks a new chapter for Jordanian football, with hopes high for continued progress and success on the international stage.
