Jamal Al-Salmi is close to taking charge of Al Fateh, with the Moroccan coach potentially making his first appearance in the Roshn Saudi League against Al Ahli.
Al Ahli are due to visit Al Fateh on Friday, in the eighth round of the Roshn Saudi League, with the match scheduled to take place at First Financing Field in Al-Ahsa.
The expected appointment comes after Al Fateh informed Saudi coach Khaled Al-Atwi, 48 hours before the match, that he had been dismissed from his position because of the team’s poor results in recent weeks. The development was reported by Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya.
Al Fateh have agreed a deal with Al-Salmi to manage the side until the end of the current season, according to the report. The Moroccan left his position as manager of Jordan only a few months ago after the team failed to progress from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
The club is now waiting for approval from the financial control department of the Roshn Saudi League Association before confirming Al-Salmi’s appointment as first-team head coach. That authorisation is expected to be obtained before the meeting with Al Ahli.
Al Fateh have endured a difficult start to the current Roshn Saudi League campaign. They are 15th in the table with three points from seven matches, having drawn three games and lost four. They are yet to record a victory this season.
Al-Salmi brings extensive coaching experience to the role. His most notable achievement came with Jordan, whom he guided to direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
That qualification was the first in Jordan’s history, marking a significant milestone in the national team’s development. His departure followed the side’s failure to advance from the World Cup group stage.
If the necessary financial approval is granted, Al-Salmi will begin his new assignment against Al Ahli, with Al Fateh seeking their first win of the campaign and an immediate improvement in their league position.
