Jacques Ekomie: Hamburg eye move for Angers and Gabon left-back
Jacques Ekomie, the Gabonese-French left-back currently at Angers SCO, is being linked with a move to Bundesliga side Hamburg. Discussions around the 22-year-olds future have intensified in recent days, with the likelihood of a transfer currently rated at 38%, suggesting interest but no advanced agreement at this stage.
Ekomie, born in Libreville and also holding French nationality, is under contract at Angers until 30 June 2027, placing the Ligue 1 club in a strong position in any negotiations. His market value is estimated at around 9 million, a figure that would represent a significant profit for Angers, who signed him from Bordeaux on a free transfer on 31 July 2024.
Having established himself in French football, Ekomie has accumulated 50 Ligue 1 appearances, as well as further experience in Ligue 2. That top-flight exposure in France is understood to be a key factor in Hamburgs interest as they look to strengthen their options on the left side of defence.
The left-footed defender, who wears the number 3 shirt at Angers, has also featured in the Coupe de France and lower divisions earlier in his career, building a substantial body of senior minutes by the age of 22. His combination of age, contract length and experience in a major European league is thought to make him a potentially costly but controllable asset for any buying club.
For now, Ekomie remains an Angers player with a year behind him at the club and two years left on his deal, leaving the French side under no immediate pressure to sell unless Hamburg or another suitor meet their valuation.
