The elections for the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) have faced another postponement, now rescheduled for June 19, instead of the initially planned date. FIFA made this decision to ensure that the elections take place under optimal security conditions.
Markus Kattner, FIFA deputy secretary general, stated, “With the elections now scheduled for June 19, it is important that the authorities decide on June 10.” He emphasized the importance of the authorities providing assurance of their support for the electoral process, either through a letter to the federation or a press release.
This delay in the elections comes amid recent events, including the arrest and imprisonment of the outgoing president of the institution, Iya Mohamed, on charges of embezzlement of public funds. The question now arises whether he will be eligible to run again in the rescheduled elections on June 19.
