Abidjan, 16 May 2025
Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba marked a major milestone by earning his 101st cap for the Elephants during last Saturday’s friendly against Bosnia. Despite the team’s narrow 2-1 defeat, the Galatasaray striker once again found the net, demonstrating his enduring importance to the national side.
The Ivory Coast Football Federation (IFF) and Drogba’s teammates honoured the captain at a special dinner the following evening. Fellow centurions Kolo Touré and Didier Zokora presented Drogba with a commemorative frame featuring a giant jersey emblazoned with the number 100, marking the milestone shared by the three veteran players.
Drogba, a Chelsea icon, has scored an impressive 65 goals for the Elephants throughout his illustrious international career, making him Ivory Coast’s all-time top scorer.
Currently training in the United States ahead of the 2014 World Cup, Ivory Coast prepares to face Colombia, Japan, and Greece in a competitive group stage. Drogba’s leadership and goal-scoring prowess will be crucial to their hopes of progressing in Brazil.
