Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is set for an extended period on the sidelines after suffering ankle ligament damage, dealing a major blow to both club and country.

The 22-year-old Ivorian, who has been one of United’s brightest sparks in recent months, confirmed the injury on Instagram, expressing disappointment but vowing to return stronger.

“Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season,” Diallo wrote. “Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever!! It is time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.”

United are still assessing the full extent of the injury, but Diallo is expected to miss several weeks, potentially ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

His absence is a huge setback for Ruben Amorim’s side, who currently sit 13th in the Premier League.

The injury also means Diallo will miss Ivory Coast’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and The Gambia next month.

Having played a key role in the Elephants’ recent success, including their AFCON triumph last year, his absence will be a significant blow to the national team’s attacking options.

Diallo has been instrumental for the Red Devils this campaign, scoring 9 times and delivering 7 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Nimes midfielder Komlan Amewou is approaching the new Ligue 2 season with renewed optimism after a frustrating last campaign at the club. In an exclusive interview, the Togo international said he has a point to prove this term after struggling for game time under former coach Thierry Froger. “I feel good compared to last year when I played very little and the coach had very little confidence in me,” the 28-year-old told AfricaSoccer.com. “Today, I have all the cards in hand to prove my talent. It was up to me to show him and everyone else that I was better than that.” Amewou believes new manager Victor Zvunka, who returned

Zamalek SC challenges decision to ease sanctions on Al Ahly

Zamalek SC has formally objected to the Egyptian Professional Football Clubs Association’s decision to reduce the sanctions imposed on Al Ahly following their failure to fulfill a fixture in the Egyptian Premier League play-offs. Al Ahly had been penalized for missing a scheduled match against Zamalek SC, with the initial punishment including a 3-0 forfeit loss, a financial fine, and a three-point deduction at the end of the 2024-25 season. However, after further review, the Association of Professional Clubs opted to ease the sanctions, revoking the points deduction while maintaining the other penalties. Jean-Michaël Seri dismisses Wilfried Zaha’s Ivory Coast return as ‘no longer relevant’

Jean-Michaël Seri has downplayed any possibility of Wilfried Zaha returning to the Ivory Coast national team, insisting that the focus has shifted entirely to the squad’s recent success. Zaha was notably absent from the Elephants’ victorious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign earlier this year, having been omitted from the squad by former coach Jean-Louis Gasset after pulling out of international duty in November 2023. While current head coach Emerse Faé has never explicitly ruled out a recall, the likelihood of Zaha returning appears slim. Seri, who plays for Al-Orobah in Saudi Arabia, was clear in his stance when speaking about the situation. “It hasn’t been talked about since we

USM Alger hit with $300,000 CAF fine ahead of CAF Cup clash

USM Alger has been handed a substantial $300,000 fine by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), just days before their CAF Cup quarter-final against CS Constantine. The Algerian club now faces financial and disciplinary pressure as it prepares for the crucial encounter. The penalty stems from multiple infractions, including the use of smoke bombs by fans during a group-stage match against ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan on January 5. In a letter to the club’s management, CAF’s Disciplinary Committee outlined a $200,000 sanction for the incident. This latest fine follows two previous penalties—$25,000 for a similar offense against Jaraaf of Senegal and $75,000 for disturbances in Dakar against the same team—bringing
