Ivory Coast striker Emmanuel Latte Lath returns to Europe with Union Berlin loan move
Ivory Coast international Emmanuel Latte Lath has returned to European football after joining Bundesliga side Union Berlin on a season-long loan from Major League Soccer club Atlanta United.
The 27-year-old striker will spend the upcoming campaign in Germany, with Union Berlin hoping his pace, movement and attacking ability can provide an additional threat in their forward line.
Latte Lath arrives at Union Berlin after spending a season and a half in MLS with Atlanta United, where he gained valuable experience and continued to develop as an attacking player.
The German club believes his versatility will give them more options in attack as they prepare for the new season.
The Ivorian forward is capable of operating as a traditional centre-forward but can also play in a more mobile attacking role, using his ability to make runs behind defenders and exploit spaces in the final third.
His move to Germany represents a return to one of Europe’s top leagues after previously building his career across different competitions.
Latte Lath began his development at Atalanta, before making a significant breakthrough during his time with Swiss side FC St. Gallen.
During the 2022-23 season, he scored 14 goals in 31 league appearances, performances that attracted attention and helped him earn a move to Middlesbrough.
After his spell in England, the striker continued his career with Atlanta United, where he made 48 appearances and contributed 15 assists during his time in Major League Soccer.
At international level, Latte Lath has represented Ivory Coast since 2024. The forward has earned four caps for the Elephants and will be hoping his return to European football can help him continue progressing on the international stage.
Union Berlin are counting on his experience and attacking qualities as they look to strengthen their squad. His ability to play in different attacking positions and his pace in transition are expected to be important assets for the Bundesliga side.
For Latte Lath, the move provides an opportunity to compete again in European football and demonstrate his qualities at a higher level.
After successful spells in Switzerland, England and the United States, the Ivorian striker now begins a new challenge in Germany with the aim of making a strong impact.
