Ivory Coast international Simon Adingra has set sights on rediscovering his form at AS Monaco following a difficult spell at Sunderland.
The talented winger secured a transfer deadline day move to Monaco, signing a contract that will keep him at the Principality club until the end of the season. Monaco have a buy option included in the deal, reported to be worth €17m.
Adingra endured a difficult start to the current season, following his big-money move from Brighton and Hove Albion to Sunderland. He featured sparingly for the latter, starting just nine times in the Premier League.
Adingra’s limited game time at Sunderland at the beginning of the season cost him a place in the Ivory Coast squad for the recently concluded AFCON tournament, where the Elephant bowed out at quarterfinals.
Having joined Monaco, Adingra insists he is looking to enjoy himself at the French giants, stressing his spell at Sunderland was a difficult one.
“All players need to enjoy themselves, regardless of the league that they’re playing in. When you play a lot, you enjoy yourself. Did I lose that? Yes, I played less this season. I am here to gain confidence and move forward,” said Adingra.
“My season at Sunderland? It was defined by more difficult moments. But now I’m at Monaco, and my focus is here.”
He wants to rely on the Monegasque club to relaunch his career and regain his place in the Ivory Coast national team after missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
