Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier will be out of action for the foreseeable future after being diagnosed with hepatitis B.
The former Paris Saint Germain and Tottenham Hotspur star, who recently joined Persepolis in Iran has been sidelined for up to six months following the setback, with the Iranian Football Federation denying the 32-year-old defender a license to play in the domestic league.
Additionally, Aurier is prohibited from training with Persepolis as long as he remains a carrier of the virus. In the Asian country, hepatitis tests are conducted every three months, with the Ivory Coast star being banned from football related activities for at least three months.
However, the return of the right-back will be determined by the results in the next three months.
Aurier is under medical supervision during his confinement and he will undergo an initial test in three months to monitor his viral load and assess his health status.
This come as a big blow for the 32-year-old, who is poised to end his career on a brighter note.
Aurier signed a deal running until 2026 for the Iranian outfit after being without a club since leaving Turkish giants Galatasaray as a free agent in July 2024.
He previously played for PSG, Spurs, Villarreal and Nottingham Forest. The defender departed Spurs by mutual agreement in 2021 after his deal was ripped up a year early.
