Ivory Coast secure comfortable victory over Chad in AFCON qualifiers

Ivory Coast secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Chad in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match on Tuesday evening at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé. The win marks their second consecutive triumph in the qualifiers, solidifying their position at the top of Group G with a perfect six points.

Despite Ivory Coast’s dominance in possession and attacking play throughout the first half, they were unable to break the deadlock until the dying moments of the half.

Chad’s goalkeeper, Gabin Allabatna, along with a resolute defensive line, kept the Elephants at bay with a series of crucial saves and interventions.

Ivory Coast’s persistence finally paid off in the 45th minute of added time when Jean-Philippe Krasso found the back of the net.

This goal was particularly significant as it marked Krasso’s third goal in the qualifiers, following his brace against Zambia last week.

The strike gave Ivory Coast a 1-0 lead heading into the interval.

The second half saw Ivory Coast continue their offensive pressure, and they extended their lead just ten minutes after the restart.

Oumar Diakite, the midfielder from Reims, scored with a precise shot that eluded Allabatna, effectively sealing the match and ensuring a 2-0 victory for the reigning AFCON champions.

Chad’s efforts to mount a comeback were thwarted by a well-organized Ivory Coast defense, and the match concluded with the Elephants comfortably maintaining their lead.

Ivory Coast will return to Group G action next month with fixtures against Sierra Leone, while Chad will face Zambia in their upcoming double-header.

The match underscored Ivory Coast’s strong form in the qualifiers as they aim to defend their AFCON title next year in Morocco.

The victory over Chad further enhances their credentials as one of the top teams in the continent’s premier football tournament.
