Côte d’Ivoire, missing several key players, suffered a 2-1 friendly defeat against Bosnia-Herzegovina in their World Cup preparations. Edin Dzeko scored twice (17th and 53rd minutes), while Didier Drogba netted a late consolation goal in injury time (+1 minute).
After the match at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Elephants coach Sabri Lamouchi admitted his team made too many mistakes. “It’s a logical defeat because we made a lot more mistakes than our opponents. You can’t win playing like that,” he said. He acknowledged some improvement in the second half but felt the team didn’t manage to unsettle their opponents.
Lamouchi also noted positives, such as giving some players valuable playing time. He’s looking forward to the next friendly against El Salvador, which he hopes will showcase a team closer to the one facing Japan in the World Cup opener.
