Lacina Traoré Released from Ivory Coast Squad Due to Fitness Concerns
Lacina Traoré’s return to the Ivorian national team was short-lived. The AS Monaco striker, who had been called up by Hervé Renard to reinforce the Ivory Coast squad for their double-header against Congo in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, has already been released.
Traoré arrived at camp last Monday to help offset several injuries in the squad, but after medical assessment, it became clear that he was not yet fully recovered from his previous injury. As a result, Renard opted to send him back to Monaco to continue his rehabilitation.
What was expected to be a much-needed reinforcement has now turned into another blow for the Elephants, who are already dealing with a depleted roster ahead of these critical matches.
