Kolo Touré: “My Mission Is to Win an AFCON Before Retiring”
With the Africa Cup of Nations approaching, Kolo Touré has made his ambitions clear: the Ivorian veteran wants to finish his international career on a high. The 33-year-old Liverpool defender, a finalist in the 2006 and 2012 editions, played a key role in helping Ivory Coast qualify for the 2015 tournament when the team was under pressure.
Speaking to linfodrome.com, Touré expressed his determination to lift the trophy that has long eluded him:
“My mission is to win an AFCON before leaving,” said the former Arsenal and Manchester City player.
“There’s an AFCON coming up, I’m here, and I’m going to finish with it. I’m going to give my all for my country and for myself because I’ve been chasing this title for a very long time. If the coach gives me this opportunity — even if it’s a small one — I will seize it. After that, it’s over. Kolo Touré and the national team, it’s over. But now, I’ve started something and I have to finish it.”
The 30th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place in Equatorial Guinea from January 18 to February 7, 2015.
