José Anigo in the Running to Become Ivory Coast Head Coach
Former Olympique de Marseille manager José Anigo has officially submitted his candidacy to become the next head coach of the Ivory Coast national team, according to reports from Sport-Ivoire.
Anigo, who has recently been overseeing scouting operations for Marseille across Africa, put forward his application this Monday to succeed Hervé Renard, who departed the Elephants to take charge of French club Lille.
While also linked with Tunisian giants Espérance de Tunis as a potential replacement for José De Morais, Anigo has expressed a preference for managing an African national team over a club side. The French coach’s ambition to lead a national side in Africa is clear, having previously applied for coaching roles with Niger, Guinea, and Mali—though without success.
In addition to Anigo, fellow Frenchman Frédéric Antonetti has also declared his interest in the Ivory Coast coaching vacancy, setting the stage for a competitive selection process.
As the Elephants prepare for upcoming international fixtures and tournaments, the Ivorian Football Federation faces a crucial decision in appointing a manager capable of guiding the talented squad forward.
With his experience in African football and knowledge of the continent’s players, Anigo could offer the Ivory Coast a blend of tactical expertise and regional insight.
The coming weeks will reveal whether the federation opts for Anigo or another candidate to lead one of Africa’s most prestigious football teams.
