Ivory Coast Football Federation Prepares for Crucial AGM Amid Tensions
The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has confirmed that a joint general meeting—covering both extraordinary and ordinary business—will take place this Saturday, November 21, in Yamoussoukro, the country’s political capital. The meeting aims to address ongoing issues within Ivorian football and set the date for the federation’s elective general assembly scheduled for Sunday. The day promises to be a busy one for Ivorian sports, coinciding with the Super Cup and the 2015 Football Oscars ceremony.
However, tensions are rising ahead of the meeting. Koné Cheick Oumar, the former ousted president of Africa Sports, has openly challenged the legitimacy of the AGM. Supported by Dao Mamadou, head of the Union of Training Centers of Yopougon, Koné claims that outgoing FIF president Sidy is disregarding federation statutes by calling the meeting at the end of his mandate.
Speaking to **Abidjan Sports**, Koné emphasized his commitment to legal channels rather than forceful disruption: *“It’s simple, we are legalists. We could have blocked the AGM by violence. But that doesn’t interest me. We will continue within the law. Sidy’s mandate is over.”* He also alleges that the outgoing president intends to amend the constitution to justify holding the ordinary AGM.
Despite Koné Cheick’s strong statements, FIF officials at the Treichville headquarters remain undeterred, continuing preparations for the Yamoussoukro meeting. The federation has been navigating a simmering crisis since June, fueled by differing interpretations of its statutes regarding the mandate of the current Executive Committee.
