Ivory Coast international Datro Fofana joins Fatih Karagümrük

Ivory Coast international striker Datro Fofana has left Chelsea once again on loan, sealing a move to Turkish Süper Lig side Fatih Karagümrük for the 2025/26 season.

The 22-year-old forward, who joined Chelsea from Norwegian club Molde in 2023, has found first-team opportunities scarce at Stamford Bridge.

Since his arrival, he has made just three appearances for the Blues and has been sent out on loan four times in a bid to gain experience and regular playing time.

Fofana’s loan journey has already taken him to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, Burnley in the Premier League, and most recently to Göztepe in Türkiye.

Now, after returning from that stint, Chelsea have opted to send him back to the Turkish league, this time with Fatih Karagümrük.

The Istanbul-based club confirmed his arrival in a statement issued on Saturday: Our club has reached an agreement with 22-year-old Chelsea striker David Fofana on a one-season loan with an option to buy.

Karagümrük also highlighted his international and European pedigree, adding: We welcome David Fofana, who has experience in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League and has also worn the Ivory Coast national team jersey, into our family and wish him success in our red and black jersey.

Fofana first caught attention during his time at Molde, where he scored 24 goals in 65 matches between 2020 and 2023.

That prolific spell earned him a transfer to Chelsea, one of Europe’s biggest clubs, during the 2022/23 season.

However, with competition for places in west London fierce, the Ivorian has yet to establish himself in the squad.

Despite his limited time at Chelsea, Fofana has already accumulated valuable experience across several European leagues.

His time at Union Berlin provided him with exposure to the Bundesliga, while his stint at Burnley gave him a taste of English top-flight football.

Last season, his spell at Göztepe offered a first introduction to Turkish football, which he will now look to build upon with Karagümrük.

For the player, the move represents another opportunity to regain form and consistency, while for Karagümrük it is a chance to bolster their attacking options with a striker who has both domestic and international experience.

Fofana’s arrival comes at a pivotal time for the Turkish club as they aim to strengthen their squad for the ongoing Süper Lig campaign.

With an option to buy included in the deal, the loan could also become a more permanent arrangement if he impresses in Istanbul.

The Ivory Coast striker will now focus on adapting quickly to his new surroundings, with the hope that regular minutes in Türkiye can reignite his career trajectory.
