HERVÉ RENARD EXPRESSES FRUSTRATION WITH IVORIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION
Despite guiding Ivory Coast to qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, French coach Hervé Renard has openly voiced his dissatisfaction with the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF). Speaking to Radio France Internationale (RFI), Renard revealed a strained relationship with his employers and pointed to unresolved issues behind the scenes.
When asked about his future and whether he would be on the bench for CAN 2015 in Equatorial Guinea, Renard’s response was telling:
“All the elements are not in place. For me, the most important thing is that Ivory Coast qualifies for the CAN. Today, I have a feeling of relief.”
The 2012 AFCON-winning coach with Zambia criticized the lack of trust shown by FIF officials and highlighted unfulfilled contractual obligations. A key grievance: Renard is still living in a hotel months after taking charge.
“Many people are aware of this situation, but no one is doing anything. Certainly, we waited for this qualification to happen and somewhere it is a lack of confidence.”
Despite the tension, Renard is hopeful for resolution:
“It’s up to me to resolve my problems face to face with the people who are in charge of this federation. I don’t have to share my feelings with everyone.”
This isn’t the first sign of friction. Renard was reportedly owed salary arrears as recently as September. The timing of this discontent is especially delicate, as his name has surfaced in connection with a possible return to Ligue 1, notably with SC Bastia.
As the Elephants prepare for AFCON 2015, questions linger not about the team’s talent—but whether their coach will still be on the touchline.
