IVORY COAST: HERVÉ RENARD TO STEP DOWN AS ELEPHANTS COACH THIS WEDNESDAY
Hervé Renard’s tenure as head coach of the Ivory Coast national team is set to officially end this Wednesday. The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach will travel to Abidjan to finalize his departure from the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF).
“I am flying to Ivory Coast this Wednesday to meet my president, Augustin Sidy Diallo, in Abidjan, regarding my contract,” Renard told RMC Sport.
Having led the Elephants to their second continental title, Renard had become a national hero. However, with a new two-year contract secured with Lille OSC in France’s Ligue 1, the Frenchman will replace René Girard, who officially left his post on Tuesday.
As part of the separation agreement, the FIF will pay Renard 262 million CFA francs, a substantial parting fee for the coach who also famously led Zambia to AFCON glory in 2012.
