Hervé Renard Linked with SC Bastia Coaching Role
Could Hervé Renard be heading back to club football? According to L’Équipe, the current head coach of the Ivory Coast national team — fresh off securing qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations — has been approached by SC Bastia about taking over their vacant managerial position.
The Corsican club is still searching for a new coach following the dismissal of Claude Makelele two weeks ago, a decision driven by a string of poor results. Renard, who famously led Zambia to an AFCON title in 2012 and is now aiming to do the same with the Elephants, has not dismissed Bastia’s offer outright and is reportedly open to discussions.
Despite his current obligations, Renard is expected to meet with Bastia officials as early as next week to explore the opportunity further.
The French tactician is currently under contract with the Ivorian Football Federation on a two-year deal. If negotiations with Bastia progress, one key question will be timing — whether Renard would join the Ligue 1 side before or after the upcoming AFCON tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
For now, all eyes remain on Renard’s next move, as both Ivory Coast and SC Bastia await clarity on his coaching future.
