Ivory Coast goalkeeper Alban Lafont set for Amedspor move from Nantes

Ivory Coast international Alban Lafont is on the verge of ending his time at FC Nantes after reports indicated he has agreed to join newly promoted Turkish side Amedspor.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper is expected to complete a permanent transfer after an encouraging loan spell with Greek club Panathinaikos, where he kept 13 clean sheets in 37 appearances.

According to L’Équipe, Amedspor have reached an agreement with Nantes over a deal worth around €1 million, while Lafont is set to sign a three-year contract that would keep him at the club until 2029.

The move is now awaiting its final formalities, with the goalkeeper expected to complete the transfer before the end of the week.

Further confirmation of the imminent switch came from Lafont’s father, who told Ivoirezine.com that the goalkeeper is heading to Turkey, leaving only the official announcement from Amedspor to complete the process.

If confirmed, the transfer will bring an end to Lafont’s association with Nantes, where he established himself as one of the club’s key players before eventually losing his place as first-choice goalkeeper during the 2024-25 campaign.

His proposed move to Turkey offers an opportunity to begin a fresh chapter after rebuilding confidence during his loan spell in Greece.

At Panathinaikos, Lafont enjoyed a productive season, producing a series of solid performances that included 13 clean sheets across 37 matches.

Those displays helped restore his reputation and attracted interest from clubs looking to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.

Amedspor, who recently secured promotion to the Turkish Süper Lig, have now moved decisively to secure the services of the experienced goalkeeper.

For the Turkish club, signing a player with experience in France, Italy and Greece would represent a significant addition as they prepare for life in the country’s top division.

Lafont’s football journey began in West Africa before he continued his development in Europe.

He was trained at EFO in Burkina Faso and AS Lattoise before progressing through the youth system at Toulouse, where he made his professional breakthrough.

The goalkeeper later enjoyed a spell with Italian side Fiorentina before joining Nantes, initially on loan, ahead of making the move permanent in 2021.

His years in Ligue 1 established him as one of the league’s recognised goalkeepers, although increased competition eventually saw him lose his regular starting role.

Now, with an agreement reportedly in place, Lafont appears ready to embrace a new challenge in Turkish football.

Only the official confirmation from Amedspor remains before the Ivory Coast international begins the next stage of his career in the Süper Lig.
