Abidjan has become the global capital of Taekwondo, hosting the first World Cup of the discipline in Africa until November 30. The Palais des Sports in Treichville is the venue for this prestigious event, with 15 countries participating. The draw for the competition took place on Tuesday, revealing the groupings.
In the men’s category, Group A consists of Mexico, China, France, and Spain. Pool B includes Russia, Gabon with its champion Anthony Obame, Burkina Faso, and the United States. Group C features Korea, DR Congo, and Senegal, while the organizing country, Ivory Coast, leads Group D with Nigeria and Brazil.
For the women’s category, Group A brings together Korea, Ivory Coast, Spain, and the United States. Group B includes Russia, France, Mali, and China.
In addition to the Taekwondo World Cup, the Ivorian State marked the occasion by laying the first stone of the sports palace in Adjamé on Wednesday. Alain Lobognon, the Minister of Sports, announced a contribution of 100 million FCFA for the construction of the Taekwondo palace, further emphasizing the commitment to the development of sports infrastructure in the country.
