Ivory Coast: Drogba Donates 5,000 School Kits to Underprivileged Children

Didier Drogba Donates 5,000 School Kits to Support Ivorian Children

Former Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba has once again proven that his influence extends well beyond the football pitch. The Chelsea striker, renowned for his contributions to the sport, showed his commitment to social causes by donating 5,000 school kits to underprivileged children in Niangon Lokoa, a village in the Yopougon district of Abidjan.

The initiative, led by the Didier Drogba Foundation in partnership with Orange Côte d’Ivoire, aims to support young students from vulnerable backgrounds by equipping them with essential school supplies as they begin the new academic year. The distribution took place in a community ceremony attended by local leaders and representatives of the foundation.

“Didier Drogba wants to see Ivorian children smile and succeed. This is only the beginning of what he plans to do,” a representative of the Ivorian legend stated during the event. “His vision is to give back to the country that made him who he is, and education is central to that.”

Drogba, who rose from humble beginnings to become one of Africa’s most celebrated footballers, has long championed humanitarian causes. His foundation, established in 2007, has worked extensively in areas such as health, education, and post-conflict recovery. This latest donation underlines his ongoing commitment to ensuring that children in his home country have access to tools that empower them to learn and thrive.

The footballer, who continues to play for Chelsea in the Premier League, was not present at the ceremony, but his gesture resonated deeply with both the children and the community. For many families in Niangon Lokoa, the kits—complete with notebooks, pens, rulers, and backpacks—represent more than just supplies; they are a sign of hope and encouragement during difficult times.

The Didier Drogba Foundation has pledged to continue its outreach, with further projects aimed at strengthening access to quality education and healthcare across the country.

For the children of Yopougon, Drogba’s legacy is not just one of goals scored or trophies won—but of lives uplifted through compassion and action.
