Les Elephants of Ivory Coast handed the Black Queens of Ghana a 1-0 defeat in their second friendly match in Abidjan on Tuesday, June 3.
This is the second friendly match between the women’s national teams of the two countries in the last five days.
The Black Queens are using the friendly games to prepare for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
In the first friendly match between the two teams, the Black Queens surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with their counterparts from Ivory Coast.
Today, both national teams went into the second encounter looking for a win to boost their morale. While many chances were created in the first half, neither side could find the back of the net.
In the second half, Ivory Coast scored the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute to brush aside the Black Queens of Ghana with a narrow lead.
Despite the disappointing results, Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is expected to take positives from the two friendlies.
He must put in a lot of work in the next training camp to ensure the team improves before the start of the 2025 Women’s AFCON on July 5.
