Abidjan is once again living to the rhythm of youth football as the Ivorian capital hosts the 2019 edition of the Abidjan District International Tournament (TIDA), a competition that has become a key event on the calendar for emerging talents across West Africa. Faithful to its tradition, the tournament returns with the ambition of highlighting the next generation of football stars while offering young players a rare opportunity to showcase their abilities on an international stage.

Reserved for players under the age of 18, TIDA has steadily built a reputation as a true breeding ground for future professionals. Every year, the event attracts not only teams and supporters but also a large number of recruiters, scouts, and player agents. For nearly two weeks, these observers closely monitor the matches in the hope of discovering promising prospects who could soon make the leap to professional clubs, both in Africa and abroad.

For many of the participants, the tournament represents much more than just a series of games. It is a chance to change their careers and, in some cases, their lives. Strong performances at TIDA have previously opened doors to contracts with academies and clubs, making the competition an essential showcase for young footballers eager to prove themselves.

This sixth edition brings together 12 teams from four different countries, highlighting the regional dimension of the tournament. The participating academies and clubs have been drawn into three groups of four teams each, setting the stage for several days of intense and competitive encounters.

Group A features some well-known names, including Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas, recognized for their outstanding youth development program. They are joined by Elite FC, Racing Club de Côte d’Ivoire, and Future Stars Agoe from neighboring Togo. This group promises exciting clashes, with each side hoping to assert its dominance early in the competition.

Group B is equally competitive, consisting of Derby AC from Mali, Fola Académie, Volcan Junior, and Académie Deportivo, the latter representing Ivory Coast. With teams coming from different footballing cultures, this pool is expected to produce tightly contested matches and plenty of surprises.

Meanwhile, Group C includes Ghana’s WAFA, another academy renowned for producing top talents, alongside San Pedro and Ivoire FC, both representing the host nation. This group will likely showcase a blend of technical skill and physical intensity, typical of West African football.

The tournament officially kicks off on Wednesday, November 27, and will run through December 4. Over the course of the week, fans and scouts alike will keep a close eye on the action, eager to identify the standout performers. As in previous editions, TIDA once again positions Abidjan at the heart of youth football development in the region, reinforcing its status as a gateway for tomorrow’s stars.
