RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has addressed speculation linking him to Liverpool, insisting that while the Merseyside giants hold sentimental value, his current focus remains with his German side.
The 19-year-old, one of Europe’s brightest young wide talents, has been attracting interest from several top clubs, including Bayern Munich, thanks to his dynamic performances for Leipzig.
The Ivorian featured for the full 90 minutes in Leipzig’s DFB-Pokal clash against Bayern at the weekend, a game that ended in elimination for his side. Despite the setback, the winger’s stock among Europe’s elite remains high, with scouts noting his pace, skill, and versatility on the flank.
“People made it out to be my dream club. But first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club,” Diomande told BILD.
“It was always his great wish to see me there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield. He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play. We didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”
The statement underscores the influence of family on his early footballing ambitions while making clear that any potential move will not distract him from his development at Leipzig.
Diomande has impressed with his ability to take on defenders, deliver incisive crosses, and contribute to Leipzig’s attacking play, qualities that have made him a target for clubs across Europe.
With interest reportedly coming from both the Premier League and Bundesliga heavyweights, Diomande is likely to face career-defining decisions in the near future.
For now, however, he is committed to continuing his growth in Leipzig’s system, where regular first-team football and exposure to high-level competitions provide the ideal platform for a young player on the rise.
