Ivorian sensation Amad Diallo delivered a dramatic last-minute winner as Manchester United stunned rivals Manchester City with a thrilling 2-1 victory, deepening Pep Guardiola’s champions’ recent struggles.
City initially took the lead in the 36th minute when Josko Gvardiol capitalized on United’s frailty in defending set pieces, nodding home from a well-executed short corner. The goal was the highlight of a largely uninspiring first half, where both sides appeared nervous and lacked sharpness.
The second half unfolded in a similar fashion, with United managing the better chances but failing to find a breakthrough until late drama ensued. With just four minutes left, Diallo’s clever play won a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes calmly converted to bring the visitors level.
As the game seemed destined for a draw, Diallo struck again, racing onto a long pass, evading Ederson, and coolly slotting the ball into an empty net to spark wild celebrations among United’s away supporters.
The result leaves Manchester City in fifth place, nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, having played an extra game and securing just one win in their last 11 matches. Meanwhile, United climb to 12th in the table.
Diallo, who now boasts four goals across all competitions, will aim to maintain his excellent form as Manchester United prepare for a League Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham on Thursday, followed by a Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Sunday.
