Rodolphe Ekou has spoken openly about his move to FK Liepaja, outlining the ambition behind his decision as he prepares for his first experience of European football after leaving SOL FC.
The Ivorian midfielder arrived in Latvia during the current transfer window and quickly identified Liepaja as the right platform to launch the next phase of his career.
In an interview with 225foot, Ekou explained that the club’s stature and objectives played a decisive role in shaping his choice.
“Liepaja stands among the biggest clubs in Latvia, with a strong history and a clear desire to win trophies,” Ekou said.
“I wanted a club with ambition, and I also wanted the chance to play in European competition. For a young player starting out in Europe, this club offers the ideal environment.”
Ekou and his agent assessed several options before settling on Liepaja, with the opportunity to compete on the continental stage weighing heavily in their discussions.
The midfielder described the club as a natural step for growth, learning and exposure at a higher level.
Turning his attention to domestic football, Ekou shared his early impressions of the Latvian championship.
He highlighted the physical demands and intensity of the league, noting that preparation plays a crucial role for every team.
“Everything I’ve seen points to a very physical and demanding league,” he said. “The intensity stays high, and the climate also adds another challenge.
The cold forces players to prepare properly, and all the clubs are working hard to reach top condition before the season begins.”
Ekou has already set clear objectives for his time at Liepaja. He wants regular minutes, consistency and steady progress as he adapts to a new football culture.
“My priority involves establishing myself and playing as many matches as possible,” he explained.
“We also have the Europa Conference League, which excites me a lot. It’s a major competition, and I want to reach peak form to prepare well for it.”
Off the pitch, Ekou has settled quickly thanks to familiar support inside the club.
His brother, defender Cissé Mory, joined Liepaja before him and played a key role in easing the transition.
“He helped me settle very fast,” Ekou said. “Everyone welcomed me warmly.
The people here show kindness, and the squad has real quality. We have a strong group with many high-level players. I feel happy and confident here.”
As Ekou begins this new chapter, he does so with clarity, ambition and belief that FK Liepaja offers the right stage to grow and succeed in Europe.
