Olympique Lyonnais have shown a keen interest in Ivorian midfielder Hamed Junior Traoré, but Bournemouth remain unwilling to consider any departure unless it involves a permanent transfer.
Traoré, whose future at the Premier League club appears increasingly uncertain, is not believed to be part of Bournemouth’s long-term plans. However, despite the growing interest in the 24-year-old, his exit from the South Coast side is proving to be far from straightforward.
Following an impressive loan spell at French side AJ Auxerre last season, Traoré has re-emerged as a hot prospect on the European market. The midfielder featured in 26 matches, scoring 10 goals and assisting twice — performances that reignited interest from clubs in France, Italy and England.
Olympique Lyonnais are one of the clubs most actively pursuing the player. With the club undergoing a challenging summer marked by financial concerns and the departure of key players, Lyon are in the market for midfield reinforcements.
The club, now led by American businesswoman Michele Kang, has placed Traoré among its top targets, seeing him as a potential key figure in their rebuild.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, Lyon are eyeing a possible loan move for Traoré in a bid to manage costs while still boosting their squad depth. However, that proposal runs counter to Bournemouth’s position.
The Cherries are only prepared to sanction a permanent move and are looking to recoup a significant portion of their initial investment. The Premier League outfit signed Traoré for €25.62 million, and he is currently valued at €20 million on Transfermarkt — a valuation they hope to maintain or exceed in any future deal.
Traoré, who was previously on Napoli’s books before his move to England, is under contract with Bournemouth until June 2028. That long-term deal gives the club leverage in negotiations, allowing them to dictate the terms of his departure.
Despite the midfielder not fitting into the current tactical vision, the club is determined to avoid a cut-price loan or a low-value sale.
At present, no formal discussions have been held between Lyon and Bournemouth due to the Premier League club’s firm stance. Lyon’s interest, though, remains strong, and much will depend on how Bournemouth’s transfer activity develops in the coming weeks.
Should the Cherries fail to offload other players or find themselves with limited options, their position regarding Traoré may soften.
For now, the situation remains in limbo, with Lyon continuing to monitor developments closely. The Ligue 1 side are keen to bolster their midfield with an athletic and technically skilled player — traits that Traoré displayed consistently during his time at Auxerre.
As the transfer window progresses, much will hinge on whether Bournemouth reconsider their approach, and if Lyon are willing — or able — to meet the financial demands necessary to secure Traoré on a permanent basis.
