Getafe are weighing up a move for Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Paul Akouokou, as the Madrid-based club seeks reinforcements ahead of the upcoming La Liga season.
With Allan Nyom’s contract set to expire in June 2025, Getafe’s hierarchy are exploring options to bolster their midfield and defensive depth.
Paul Akouokou has been identified as a primary target, and discussions between the two clubs are reportedly already in progress.
The Ivorian international, currently under contract at Lyon until June 2027, has struggled to find regular minutes at the Ligue 1 outfit.
Last season, Akouokou managed only 18 minutes across two league appearances, with his total playing time across all competitions amounting to just 125 minutes over five matches.
With opportunities limited in France, the 26-year-old midfielder is said to be open to a move, particularly one that would take him back to La Liga—a league he knows well from his previous stint with Real Betis.
Before joining Lyon in 2023, Akouokou had featured regularly in Spain, having also spent time at Betis’ reserve team as well as earlier spells with clubs such as Beitar Jerusalem.
While Lyon are reportedly seeking a fee of at least €1 million for the Ivorian’s services, Getafe are believed to be considering a bid in the region of €800,000.
Akouokou’s current market value is estimated at €800,000 by Transfermarkt, which could give the Spanish side leverage in ongoing negotiations.
Despite limited playing time in France, Akouokou’s technical ability and familiarity with the Spanish top flight remain key factors in Getafe’s interest.
The player’s versatility in midfield—particularly in a defensive role—would offer valuable depth to a squad aiming to build on a stable mid-table finish last season.
In addition to Getafe, the midfielder has also reportedly been on the radar of Sevilla, further underlining his appeal within Spanish football circles.
However, Getafe’s early interest and swift engagement with Lyon could give them the edge in securing a deal.
As the transfer window approaches, Paul Akouokou’s potential return to La Liga appears increasingly likely—pending an agreement between Lyon and Getafe.
For the Ivorian, it could mark a much-needed fresh start in a league where he has already shown promise.
