Ivorian forward Elye Wahi loses place in Eintracht Frankfurt starting eleven
French-born Ivorian forward Elye Wahi has lost his place in the Eintracht Frankfurt starting eleven as he continues to struggle for form.
According to reports, Wahi, who joined Frankfurt from Montpellier in a high-profile €26 million transfer, has slipped down the pecking order alongside Michy Batshuayi, with both strikers losing prominence in the team’s forward rotation.
Initially, the club planned for Wahi to rotate and share playing time with summer signing Jonathan Burkardt. However, those plans appear to have changed.
Over the last four matches, Wahi has featured for just 27 minutes, and in the recent 2-2 draw against Freiburg, he remained an unused substitute. Instead of turning to Wahi or Batshuayi, Toppmöller opted for 20-year-old Jean-Mattéo Bahoya to lead the line.
Batshuayi’s situation is even more uncertain, as he was left out of the matchday squad entirely.
With Frankfurt eyeing potential reinforcements in January, among them Newcastle United’s 22-year-old forward William Osula, a winter transfer could be on the horizon for one or both players if their situations do not improve.
