Ivorian forward David Datro Fofana set for permanent Chelsea departure

Ivorian forward David Datro Fofana has finally brought an end to his long association with Chelsea after completing a permanent move to Swiss club Servette.

According to reports, Servette have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign the 23-year-old striker on a permanent transfer, marking the end of his time with the London club.

The transfer is reportedly worth an initial €2.5 million, with Chelsea also set to receive a further €1 million in potential bonuses depending on the conditions of the agreement.

Fofana is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Geneva-based side, giving him the opportunity to establish himself at a club where he can potentially enjoy more consistent first-team football.

Chelsea secured the services of the Ivorian in January 2023, but the striker struggled to establish himself as a regular member of the first team.

Instead, much of his time under Chelsea was spent away from Stamford Bridge on loan as the club sought to provide him with regular playing opportunities and accelerate his development.

Fofana had loan spells at Union Berlin in Germany, Burnley in England, Göztepe in Turkey and Strasbourg in France. Despite gaining experience across several European leagues, he was unable to force his way into Chelsea’s long-term plans.

His departure now brings an end to a spell in which his potential was never fully realised at Stamford Bridge.

The permanent transfer to Servette represents a fresh chapter for the Ivorian, who will now look to settle at the Swiss club and rediscover the form that made him an attractive prospect earlier in his career.

According to Transfermarkt, Fofana’s current market value is estimated at €4 million, although Chelsea have reportedly agreed to part with the striker for an initial €2.5 million plus potential add-ons.

At Servette, Fofana will hope to put the uncertainty surrounding his future behind him and focus on establishing himself as a key attacking figure for the Swiss side.
