Ivorian forward Charly Keïta targets success after signing with FK IMT Belgrade
Ivorian striker Charly Soualio Keïta has signed with FK IMT Belgrade, committing to a new chapter in the Serbian SuperLiga after leaving Beerschot VA and Amed SK last season.
The 26-year-old, who trained at Pau FC, has been without a club since the summer but has now opted to continue his career in Serbia’s top division.
His move comes after a season split between Belgium and Turkey, where he featured in 23 matches for Beerschot VA, scoring twice and providing one assist, before adding another two goals in 15 appearances with Amed SK.
Reflecting on his journey so far, Keïta described Belgium as a particularly formative stage in his development. During his time at Beerschot VA, he helped the club secure the second division title and achieve promotion to the top flight.
He regards that success as a stepping stone that broadened his horizons and paved the way for his transfer to Turkey. His six months at Amed SK, though short, were described as “intense and enriching.”
Speaking to Africafoot about his decision to join FK IMT Belgrade, Keïta emphasised both his professional ambitions and his long-term aspirations.
“I chose IMT Belgrade because I wanted to remain in a first division, in a league that is competitive and attractive,” he explained. “In my mind, the objective is clear—I want to continue improving and ultimately earn a place in the Ivory Coast national team.”
Keïta has set out clear personal targets for his first season in Serbia. He is determined to adapt swiftly to his new surroundings, earn regular playing time, and make his mark in front of goal. “I arrive in Belgrade with great ambition and determination,” he said. “My first goal is to play more and score as many goals as possible.
The second is to grow as a player and establish myself as one of the best centre-forwards in the league. Together, we can also fight to qualify for European competition.”
Currently valued at around €550,000 by Transfermarkt, Keïta sees this move as an opportunity to raise his profile further. His career path to date has been defined by steady progression, beginning at Pau FC before stints with CS Sedan and Clermont Foot. He also gained international experience through a loan spell at Swiss club FC Biel-Bienne prior to his move to Belgium with Beerschot VA.
Now, with FK IMT Belgrade offering him the stage to prove himself in Serbia’s top tier, Keïta is eager to combine personal development with team success.
His immediate challenge will be to settle quickly and deliver consistent performances, while keeping his long-term ambition of representing Ivory Coast firmly in sight.
For both player and club, the partnership represents a bold step forward: for FK IMT Belgrade, the acquisition of an experienced and motivated striker; for Keïta, a platform to showcase his ability and aim higher on the European stage.
