Ivorian Football Federation provides injury update on striker Sébastien Haller ahead of AFCON 2025
Ivorian Football Federation has provided an injury update on enterprising attacker Sébastien Haller ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations has been scheduled to run from December 21 through to January 18, 2026, with 24 countries set to battle it out for the covetous trophy in the North African nation.
But the Elephants preparation for the much-anticipated tournament suffered a major setback, with FC Utrecht succumbing to an injury while in action at the weekend.
The former Dortmund star was forced off the pitch, raising concerns about his availability for the continental showpiece, which kick start three days’ time.
However, the domestic football governing body confirmed that comprehensive medical examinations has taken place, and as a precautionary measure, Haller has been placed under medical observation and has not yet returned to full training.
The defending champions are scheduled to open their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on December 24 with a group-stage clash against Mozambique.
Coach Emerse Fae and his charges are bent on defending the title won on home soil back in 2024.
