AS Monaco are reportedly targeting Clément Akpa to strengthen their defense amid a difficult start to the season.

The 23-year-old Ivorian international has impressed at AJ Auxerre with consistent performances, earning a reputation as a defensive cornerstone since last season.

Monaco face a series of defensive challenges, including injuries and repeated errors, which have prompted the club to explore potential reinforcements.

According to Foot Mercato, the Monegasque side have identified Akpa as a key target and have reportedly opened discussions to secure his signature.

Despite the interest, a move for the defender appears unlikely this winter.

Auxerre have no intention of releasing their standout player, highlighted by his recent contract extension.

Akpa also seems content at the Burgundy club and does not show urgency to transfer.

Auxerre have reportedly set a minimum transfer fee of €10 million for Akpa, a sum considered high for a November deal.

The financial demands, coupled with the player’s willingness to remain, suggest Monaco may need to weigh other options or wait until a later transfer window.

Akpa, under contract with Auxerre until June 2028, earns €910,000 per season.

He has featured in 11 Ligue 1 matches this season, starting 10 of them, and carries a current market value of €7 million according to Transfermarkt.

His performances in central defense have drawn attention from several clubs, underlining his growing status in French football.

As Monaco seek stability at the back, Akpa remains a highly regarded defensive talent whose future could influence their transfer strategy.
