Cédric Kipré has completed a move to Ipswich Town on a one-year loan from Stade de Reims, in a deal confirmed by the club on Sunday, July 13.
The Ivorian international joins the Championship side ahead of the 2025–26 campaign, bringing with him a wealth of experience in English football.
The 28-year-old defender, who had attracted strong interest from Sunderland and Nottingham Forest earlier in the summer transfer window, ultimately opted for a surprise switch to the Tractor Boys.
With Reims recently relegated to Ligue 2, Kipré had been seeking a return to the English game—and Ipswich have seized the opportunity.
Ipswich Town, who were demoted to the Championship after a single season back in the Premier League, are determined to make an immediate return to the top flight.
The acquisition of Kipré reflects the club’s intent to strengthen its defensive ranks with a player familiar with the intensity and demands of English football.
A product of the Leicester City youth academy, Kipré has had spells at Wigan Athletic, West Bromwich Albion, and Cardiff City.
His performances have earned him recognition for both his physical presence and his no-nonsense approach to defending.
Despite Reims’ struggles last season, Kipré stood out as one of the side’s most consistent performers.
Speaking to Ipswich Town’s official media channel, Kipré expressed his excitement about the move and reaffirmed his commitment to helping the club achieve its promotion ambitions.
“I’m delighted to be here and it’s great to be part of this great club,” he said. “The last time I played in the Championship, Ipswich were going up to the Premier League. The goal this season is to do the same. When you hear that the aim is promotion, that’s always attractive for a player. That’s what made my decision easy.”
Kipré also shared his enthusiasm for returning to the English game, praising the atmosphere and connection between players and supporters.
“I’m strong and aggressive, and fans usually appreciate that because I give everything for the badge. I like physical battles and the energy of the English fans. The intensity here is different. When I played against Ipswich at Portman Road, the atmosphere was incredible. Playing for this club will be special—I can’t wait to get started.”
Kipré remains under contract with Reims until June 2027 and continues to be a valuable asset for the French side, who are reportedly covering part of his salary during the loan.
According to Transfermarkt, the defender is currently valued at €3 million. His annual salary at Reims is reported to be €1.09 million, or approximately 708.5 million FCFA.
With pre-season preparations well underway, Kipré will now focus on integrating with Kieran McKenna’s squad as Ipswich prepare for another push toward Premier League promotion.
His leadership and Championship experience could prove vital in what promises to be a fiercely competitive season.
The move represents a calculated step for both player and club—an opportunity for Kipré to reignite his career in a league he knows well, and for Ipswich to add steel and structure to their backline as they target a swift return to England’s top tier.
